For some movies, the guns are the leading stars, and there have sure been quite a few double-barrelled feature films over the years. If you’re just as batty for a sexy firearm as you are for a star studded cast, there are plenty of films to fill the void.
Take a little time to get a feel for what you’re missing, and take a look at some of the coolest big screen firearms to ever tell a story. Here is a brief overview of the most iconic movie guns in film to date.
007’s iconic Walther PPK
James Bond has historically used the Walther PPK, and the movies have made a name for the weapon. No other handgun is as iconic at the tiny little PPK.
If being the preferred weapon of James Bond isn’t enough, it is believed that Hitler used a PPK to take himself out at the end of the war. It’s a small weapon, but still powerful enough to take out a notorious dictator.
You can always hit something with an M60 machine gun
The 1960’s gave birth to the notoriously love-hate relationship with the M60 machine gun. The gun is heavy and belt-fed with even heavier ammunition.
However, the M60 was good enough for Rambo and Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2 . If you’re looking for more opportunities to see the M60 in action on the big screen, you will find it in just about any movie set during the Vietnam War.
“Go ahead, make my day”
If you’re feeling lucky, punk… then you might recognize Clint Eastwood’s relationship with the .44 Magnum Smith & Wesson 29. Dirty Harry had two big stars on the cast; Clint Eastwood and the weapon he wielded.
It’s quite a shame there are no big award shows offering statues for the best lead weapon in a film, because the .44 Magnum Smith & Wesson would sweep the competition.
The M134 MiniGun
The M134 MiniGun can take out a small army with its insane ability to disperse up to 6,000 rounds per minute. This gun takes ‘pray and spray’ to a whole new level, and the big screen hasn’t failed to capture its abilities on camera.
Let your mind wander to the big scene in Predator where Arnold Schwarzenegger uses the power of the M134 MiniGun to absolutely demolish a spread of jungle. The U.S. military uses this weapon as a mounted gun due to its power and ability to cover lots of ground.
Deadpool has a Desert Eagle
Deadpool has a Desert Eagle; enough said. Really, though… This hand cannon is nothing less than a formidable force. You’ll find the Desert Eagle’s distinctive triangular shape instantly recognizable on the big screen.
